About the Founder:
Charlotte Cohen (she/her) is a current high school senior in New York City, and is the Founder and Executive Director of Buddy System.
As a recovered anorexic, during the peak of her illness Charlotte was able to find a lot of comfort in speaking to non-professional recovered anorexics. Given that all of the individuals were able to empathize with the intense emotions that Charlotte was feeling, they were subsequently able provide hope that, despite the severity of the situation, it was possible for things to get better. This essentially allowed her to see that a light at the end of the tunnel does exist.
Throughout Charlotte’s recovery journey and more conversations, it became apparent to her that not all individuals who are struggling have the same opportunity to speak to people in recovery. She states, “There are not enough free non-medical support programs for adolescents struggling with eating disorders. This realization is what led to the birth of Buddy System.”
